What I'm watching - Babies

We watched "Everybody loves... Babies" a few weeks ago with the girls and it was really good. I give it an A! It's about the first year of four babies lives. Almost like a hidden camera, they follow them around and document their life in their own countries and it is so interesting. Because of the different cultures they are raised quite differently from one another. My girls got quite a kick out of the movie, giggling at the babies and asking questions about their lives. I think it was entertaining and educational for all of us. 

What were watching... Beasts of the Southern Wild

Brian and I watched "Beast of the Southern Wild" the other weekend. We need to find someone else who watched the movie to talk about it! There is a message in the movie and I wonder if everyone gets the same message or forms their own from their life.

It was a interesting movie with wonderful acting by the girl and the dad, they brought us both to tears. It will leave you with questions... what did I just see, what is the message, what did I learn?

What I'm watching - Fantastic Mr. Fox

Santa brought me this DVD for Christmas "The Fantastic Mr Fox", I'm not one to own many movies for myself. We have a lot for the girls but I don't really watch many movies over and over. But this is one I really wanted to add to our little movie library. 


First I love stop motion movies and this one is done so well! The movement, lighting and styling of the characters is so wonderful. I can really appreciate the time it takes to make a movie like this. I would love to work on a movie like this. Meanwhile the girls and I will continue to make our homemade versions of stop motion movies.

What I'm watching - movies

Brian and I have been renting a lot of movies lately (gotta love the library and red box), there just isn't much on TV right now. Last weekend we watched Brides Maids and X-Men. I know what you are thinking... one for me and one for him. But we both really enjoyed both movies. 

Brides Maids is silly and funny, while X-Men was exciting and intersting. X-men touched upon the 1962 Cuban Missile crisis, which I have to admit I didn't know too much about. Now I am currious to read a book about the missile crisis minus the muntants.

What I'm watching - Catfish

Brian and I watched this documentary last weekend... 
I don't want to give anything away... so all I will say is:

What I'm watching - This is it - Michael Jackson

In the 80's I wanted to marry Michael Jackson, countless times I danced around the living room to the thriller record... yes a vinyl record... I am showing my age. 

I have several of his classic hits on my ipod and the girls love the music also. Especially Amelia, the other week we watched part of the "This is it" movie and it was really neat. He still had the moves and the voice. Amelia was just as fascinated as I was. It's so cool to enjoy the same interest as your kids!

What I'm watching - Marionettes with Geahk Burchill

After watching this, now I'm going to have to try to make a puppet! It would never compare to his lovely puppets, but it would be something fun the girls and I can do. We could make a rough puppet out of some empty sewing spools, fabric and yarn?

Does this happen to you? I always want to try to make everything I see, it's a little bit crazy and my crafting to do list is very long!!

Movie Review: Toy Story 3

 

We are big Pixar fans, before kids we would go to the theater to see their movies. Now we have a extra good excuse to see the kid movie, our two kids ages 4 & 6.

I was not sure how the third Toy Story movie would go, what could they do? But Pixar did not let us down. We laughed, cried and we were on the edge of our seats just like all their movies. They have the story formula nailed down! Then add in the awesome computer animation and their movies are gold! We give "Toy Story 3" one a big A!

Movie Review: Nine

Brian and I rented the Movie "Nine" at a redbox (we love the red boxes, they are so easy and $1 for a movie is great). Right after the movie we both looked at each other and almost at the same time said we were bored! Brian did like the song parts of the movie and that was the part I didn't like. I thought there was only one good song in the movie... "Be Italian" by Fergie. Overall I give it a solid C. It did a some nice visual effects, a lot of sexy girls for the guys but overall boring.

Movie Review: Where the Wild things Are.

Brian and I watched "Where The Wild Things Are", last weekend and I was very bored, I could hardly keep my eyes open. I don't know if I missed the point, but the story line really dragged! After it was over I asked Brain what he though and he said almost the same thing... so it wasn't just me. We both were bored and didn't get the story. We give it a C-.

The only thing I did like were the Wild Things costumes, I though they did look really neat and I love the stick nest/houses they built. Those were really cool and I would have loved to help build those, that would have been a fun project.

This hut is so cool, I wish I could build one in the backyard!

Movie Review: Alice in Wonderland

A few weeks ago I went to see Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland with my friend Edna. It was my pick, it looked so magical. I enjoyed the movie but was not blown away. It was good and entertaining but it was not a movie I feel I need to purchase on DVD. The special effects were good and believable, but maybe something with the story was missing... I'm not sure, I can't put my finger on what it needed.

I really enjoyed the field mouse and the hound dog. The mouse was funny with a dry wit and the dog stole my heart with his loyal love for his family. I give it a B+.

What I'm watching - American Pickers

Brian and I are hooked on this new show called American Pickers (on the History Channel). These two guys search for the rusty goodies most people would walk way around. They clean it up a bit and make a profit.

Brian and I have always loved to antique shop and before kids would spend hours in the antique malls or auctions treasure hunting. That's how we ended up with our waterfall bedroom set and an old wooden wheelchair. The wheelchair was resold a few years ago to make room for kid stuff. But our love for the hunt and deal is still strong. Heck, Brian proposed to me in an antique mall... that's another story, but it should tell you we are "Pickers" by heart and this show is right up our alley!

Mabel the Mouse

This is my latest creation... Mabel the Mouse... she is made with 80% upcycled materials and no pattern... so she is wonderfully unique!

I also made my first stop motion video staring Mabel. I really enjoyed making this video clip,I've been wanting to do one of these for awhile. When Amelia saw it she was so excited and asked how is Mabel walking? When I told her that I made her do that she seemed a bit disappointed that Mabel had not magically came to life. Both girls now want to make movies with their plushy friends, so stay tune for more.

Movie Review: Moon

Brian brought home this movie rental called: Moon. I had not heard anything about it and I never saw one preview. I really enjoyed this movie and give it an A. I'm not going to tell you anything about it except that it takes place in space on the moon and it's worth the time to watch... enjoy!

Star Wars Concertt

Last week Brian and I attended the Star Wars concert. We got there a little early to see the "special" exhibits, which were a bit disappointing, we both thought there would be a lot more items. Plus, I wish they were up a little higher, it was hard to see around the crowds of people. Speaking of crowds... at one point we were walking around the arena to get to our seat section and it was so crowded that no one was moving. It was wall to wall people, squeezed in tight and we were not moving at all! I wanted to scream... MOVE... so badly. I finally squeezed us through pulling Brian behind me.

The show was great, I give it a A, but I would have like the music to be a bit louder. Our friends were sitting in another section and they had to hold their ears. So I guess it depended on where you sat. The orchestra always amazes me since I never learned to play an instrument, I think I would like to play the violin or the Cello?

Brian loved it and he would give it an A+, my Star Wars nerd was a happy camper!

note: I call Brian a SW nerd all in good fun... at least he did not dress up in a costume.

Movie Review: John Hughes Films

John Hughes recently died and that made me reminisce about some of my favorite movies growing up. These are my top 4 movies he made. These were all coming of age movies and came out at the perfect time for me.

I think I related most with Molly Ringwald's character in Sixteen Candles, since in high school I was not the popular girl and not the nerd but somewhere in between. I had a huge crush on one of the popular boys in school and he barely knew my name. Sadly the movie got a better ending than I did with the cute guy...

I was thinking how fun it would be to watch these movies with my girls when they become teens, but then I realized they won't get it, the jokes, the clothes, it will be so out dated. I'm sure there will be a current teen movie that will strike a special cord with them. I'll still watch it with them and we'll have to see.

Movie Review: Songcatcher

I rented this from the library the other day, I have never heard of it but it caught my eye, it had "Winner of the Sundance film festival" on the cover and I had heard of Adian Quinn. So Brian and I watched it the other night and oh my goodness it was BAD I give it a D. The movie is about folk songs and only a few songs were even sung well. There are several confusing story lines that should have been left out totally, they made no contribution to the overall story. It was an oddly put together movie with poor acting and a rushed love story. Does Sundance hand everyone an award?

If you see this in your local library or a dollar bin somewhere pass it up and spend your dollar on candy! The candy will entertain you better than this movie!
