Anna and her bike

You can't get this girl off her bike! I bought this bike off Craig's list for 5 bucks. I did not want to spend $40 on a new bike since I was not sure she would want to ride it. She really never liked riding her big wheel. Plus I figure she will out grow it in a year so I would be eco-friendly and by used.

Anna loves it! She rode it all the time taking Amelia to and from school. And both girls love riding up and down the sidewalk. Doesn't she look so cute with her giant yellow helmet and her teddy bear backpack. I guess it's time to get her a big girl helmet. This surly will be the summer of the bike for our family.

Go Anna Go!

The best part of my day

Today is the last day of Kindergarten for Amelia. It's been a great year... she really liked school, her teacher and all her classmates! She did half day kindergarten so next year will be a big change for us. We will miss having lunch with Amelia and I know Anna will really miss playing with her in the afternoon. It makes me a bit sad, this year is already over, it went by so fast.

I took this photo a few days ago so I can always remember how everyday Amelia would come running out of school to give me a hug. I know she will not do this for long, I might get another year of running to mama. So I really enjoy it while I can. It's one of the best parts of my day!

Love Note Pillow

The newest addition to my etsy shop.... the Love Note Pillow. I machine stitched the notebook paper design and then hand embroidered the message. I also sell a custom version that you can choose your own message.

Doesn't it remind you of the kind of notes you passed in school, all folded up and passed from your friend to their friend. Oh young love!

My LOST Pantry

My husband and I have been watching LOST since it began. He loves LOST and I am more frustrated with it and if it wasn't for him I would have quit the show two seasons ago. The final show of LOST is this Sunday and I am excited to have it done with. I know he wishes it would go on forever!

I made up some LOST food labels to surprise Brian. I thought it would be funny and he would get a kick out of it.

Here are PDF files of the labels I made that you can print out and make your own. They would make great props if you were hosting a LOST party.

Refashion - T-shirt to nightgown #2

Right now all Anna wants to wear to bed are nightgowns. So I took this old t-shirt of mine and sized it down to fit her. Then I embellished it with ruffles down the front using the fabric I cut away. So easy and she loves it!

Kaylee's Whale

I made this sweet whale for a friend of mine who just had her second baby. Welcome to the world Kaylee!

This whale is eco-friendly since it is made with all upcycled fabrics. This makes me very happy!
I have a blue whale in my etsy shop here and a brown whale here.
Last week I made 3 more whales and I will be listing them in my shop later this week.

Mr. Waternoose

Who knew Mr. Waternoose liked to dress in drag?

As Amelia was putting barbie shoes on his feet I heard Anna say to Amelia:

Anna: I'll get the red shoes.

Amelia: No he doesn't want the red shoes.

Anna: But the red ones will be pretty!

Looks like Amelia won this one. I guess the red would have clashed with his pink, purple and gold necklace.

What we're eating - Rainbow Cupcakes

All year Amelia has been asking me when we can bring in birthday treats for her class. Her birthday is in July and since they will be out of school for the summer I brought in treats last week. We made rainbow cupcakes. It's very easy to do and they were a big hit with the kids.

Separate the prepared cake batter into 3 bowls and mix a color in each bowl. Then put a large tablespoon of each color in the cupcake pan, one on top of the other. We had orange on the bottom, then green, then purple (you can see the layers through the paper in the top photo). Then we topped it with pink icing and sprinkles. They were fun to look at and tasted so Yummy!

Memory Monday - I SPY

photo of Amelia - 2008

Back in 2008 when Amelia was 4 we had this converstation:

We were sitting in the car playing I spy...

Amelia: I spy something round and on a car.

Me: is it a wheel?

Amelia: Very good Momma, you know some people call them tires.

She is a very smart cookie!

Garden - Perennials

I love perennials and how they come back year after year with almost no help from me! I don't enjoy buying flowers that only last one season. I almost feel they are a waste of money and time. That's why I have been filling my garden beds with bulbs and perennial plants and flowers.

Aren't these clematis flowers so pretty! I planted it two years ago and every May there are lovely pink flowers blooming. They make me smile.

Smile

I made this funny little bunny for a friend who is going through a rough time. I hope it makes her smile for a moment and she knows things will work out.

Send someone you know a smile today, it could be a simple email... a postcard... or even a big hug! It will make them feel special and you'll be glad you did!

Greater St. Louis Science Fair

I'm the proud Mom of a Greater St. Louis Blue Ribbon Science Fair winner! Amelia got a Blue ribbon at her school, then in the school district and now the Greater St. Louis Fair! She was very excited but a bit nervous accepting her ribbon at the ceremony. After we went out for an ice cream treat.

There were about 1,800 projects!

Mom

Isn't it a great feeling to have at least one person in your life who is always there for you... who held your hand when you were in pain, who laughed when you acted silly, who encouraged you to look forward when a dream was crushed, who squealed in delight when your first baby was born.

My Mom has done all that and so much more for me. But most important I know she is always there for me no matter what comes my way, good or bad, she is there and I am very lucky!

I love you Mom!

Product Review - Lysol No Touch Soap

I saw a commercial for this and had to try it. Mainly because my girls are always making a big mess with the foam soap pump we had. Anna would put it on the toilet lid and pump making a mess all over the lid. So this gadget caught my eye!

When the girls saw it they were very excited to use it! The price was not bad, $9.99 for the auto pump, one container of soap and it came with two batteries! I bought the cucumber splash scent, which my husband hated the smell! The girls and I liked the smell.

Well... it's awesome! I love this thing! I have not had to wipe soap off the toilet seat since we got it. It squirts out the perfect amount of soap, no mess, so Mama is happy!

The down side... they sell refills bottles for about $4 a bottle. I always refill my pumps with large tubs of soap from Sam's Club. This cuts down on the plastic waste. So there was no way I was going to buy a refill every month. So once it was empty I gave Brian the job of figuring out how to pop off the lid so we could refill it with our own bulk soap and with a scent Brian likes. He used a screwdriver to pry the lid off and then popped it back on, so you can refill it yourself.

As the commercial says... never touch a germy soap pump again!
As I say... one less mess for Mama to clean up it always good!

Garden - first harvest

We had our first harvest this week, bib lettuce. They girls really enjoyed cutting the leaves and eating our small salads at lunch. We just took the large leaves so we can harvest more later.

This weekend we added two tomato plants and one cucumber plant to the garden bed. We also hung two tomato plants in our upside down planters.

Amelia's Art - Our House

Amelia drew this picture of our house and all it's detail really surprised me. She seems to have a good memory for detail. She has the two bushes, all the windows, the window in the front door, the sidewalk, the brick edging & plants, the bench & railing on the front porch. Maybe I'm just a proud Mom but I am impress she did this at age 5 1/2!

I found this photo of our house from this past winter... see... pretty good, right?
